Winner of the Pulitzer Prize, two Academy Awards, a Grammy and a special Tony Award, Oklahoma! is the classic American musical that launched the remarkable songwriting collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. Set in turn of the century Oklahoma, against a backdrop of the high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys, Oklahoma! is the cherished love story of Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl. Featuring such favorite numbers as “People Will Say We’re In Love”, “Oh What A Beautiful Mornin’ “, and “Surrey With A Fringe On Top”, this landmark musical is a true treasure that can be enjoyed over and over again! The Story of Brookside by Roger Welch / Van Wert Historical Museum / 2 PM

The final in this year's series of local history reflections. Brookside Dairy has a long-running story in the history of Van Wert. Roger Welch, present owner of the business, will offer an informative presentation on this business. For more information call the museum at 419-771-9851

The Dixie Swim Club / Van Wert Civic Theatre / 8 PM Five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids, and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina’s Outer Banks to catch up, laugh, and meddle in each other’s lives. The play focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-five years. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another to get through the challenges life throws at them. For more information or to reserve tickets call 419-238-9689

Annual Members' Show and Sale / Wassenbeg Art Center / 1 - 5 PM

Part of the Wassenberg Art Center's mission is to encourage and support area artists. A large number of Wassenberg members are skilled artists, photographers, potters, jewelers, woodcarvers, and glass makers. This exhibit spotlights their work and gives the public an opportunity to support local artists by purchasing their work. The event includes a juried exhibit and a sales gallery, with many pieces for sale in both areas.
